I tend to take a camera with me on most outings ‘just in case’. Just in case of what, I am never quite sure, but I do know that the number of times I have been out and then felt exasperated because I didn’t take a camera have certainly been significant in the past. The issue here is that I will usually take my Sony RX10iv bridge camera with me and thus far, when we have been away, I have NEVER processed an image from that camera for the ‘Incidental Landscape’ collection, believing that it simply wouldn’t fit the bill. There are a multitude of reasons behind this train of thought, as I have previously suggested; mainly revolving around focusing the mind and working with a specific set of equipment to harness this. But I am often a little more relaxed in my surroundings here; I know roughly what to expect, and so this helps with composition and turning a picture around at quick pace. I am in familiar territory and so I kind of do know what is around the corner. That being said, it is more often than not those moments when I wander off-piste for a few moments by myself that I feel captivated and compelled to squeeze the shutter button.
